It’s Raining!

Yes, it does rain the Middle of the Desert!

Rain in the Middle of the Desert

The Monsoon season seems to have started a little early this year, but we’ll take it, we’ll take any rain we can get.

Stay dry and cool my friends!

Lunch at El Gato Azul in Prescott Arizona

Since moving to the High Desert in Central Arizona, I’ve made up a running list of restaurants that I think we might enjoy.  Missus Landlord has given us several suggestions to add to our list.

We had to go out and about to run a whole big bunch of errands and tried, I stress tried, to get a seat at 2, count them, TWO local establishments for lunch to no avail.  I could hear my dear husband’s stomach growling louder and louder, which can make for a grumpy bear … FOOD, we must have food!

Hmmm, well, let’s try El Gato Azul just down the road a piece … we got the last open table, YAY!

El Gato Azul, BLT&T Sandwich

My husband is the kinda guy that the first thing he sees on a menu, he orders.  “But honey there’s …”  NOPE!  It was a BLT&T Sammie (light on the mayo please?) for him, served with a very nice spring greens salad, very lightly dressed in what I suppose is their house creation.  That’s a HUGE sandwich, boy!

El Gato Azul, Anne's Calamari Salad

Now, I had already researched this restaurant online and knew what I wanted … Anne’s Calamari Salad, I loved it!  This is a ginormous plate of goodness boys and girls.  Spring greens, lightly dressed with their house dressing, a generous mound of Calamari done to perfection; all topped with a beautiful aioli.

As we sat enjoying the lovely patio setting, I was finishing my glass of wine (what? you don’t have wine with a nice lunch out?) when both my husband and I commented that we’d like to come back for evening tapas and cocktails, YEAH!

Taco Tuesday at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant in Chino Valley Arizona

Okay, so we talked about Taco Tuesday out with friends before, but that was in Catalina, what about in Chino Valley Arizona?

We met Mister and Missus DF’s at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant in Chino Valley for a second time.  The first was for Sunday breakfast, yes, I said breakfast and it was GOOD!  I didn’t get any photographs, because I did a face plant into my food before I could reach for my camera.  Not tonight though, Mrs. DF reminded me, “Where’s your camera? You forgot to take pictures on Sunday.”  Thank you Holly!

Taco Tuesday at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant

Oh my GAWD!  Come on Man, for $3 you can have Carne Asada, Carnita, Fish or Shrimp tacos.  For $2 you can have Ground Beef, Chicken, and, ummm, I forget now, HA!  But there were I think 2 other choices for $2.  Oh, AND $2 Margaritas that weren’t bad.

Also on our table were two salads, an Avocado Salad and a Chicken Taco Salad.  The Cilantro Ranch dressing was outstanding.  Make sure if you go to ask for the “secret stash” of the Green Salsa, muy caliente, but very tasty.

Cheesecake Chimi at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant

Mrs. DF said that I needed to try the Cheesecake Chimi, oh baby!  GOOD!

We’ve already made a date for the four of us to meet at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant again in two weeks!

A Bit Of Home In Central Arizona

It has been a VERY stressful, well, seven months for my husband and I, what with listing our home, open houses, 3 offers to buy our home and finally selling it, MAN!  It’s rough, let me tell you.  So we both decided that we needed some comforts from home, Hawaii that is!

Cucumber Sushi

The first dish I made was Cucumber Sushi, super easy!

Limu Ahi Poke

Next up was some Limu Ahi Poke, MMM!  Now that just screams Hawaii, doesn’t it?

As I always do, I made WAY  too much food.  You know the drill, I gotta share it, so who better than our new landlords.  We’ll just say that Mister Landlord liked the sushi.

Sharing Food With Our New Neighbors

So, I told you guys already that we moved and that we are renting a place from friends-of-friends.  Well, they live upstairs from us and you know me, I like to share what I make.  This place has this WAY COOL dumbwaiter and we have been sending stuff up and down to one another.

The other night, our gracious hostess personally delivered some of her homemade Chili, along with 2 ice cold beers, MAN!

Ground Turkey Chili and an ice cold beer, MMM!

This is working out great!

Over The Mountain

Part of what my husband and I have been doing lately is exploring the surrounding areas to our new digs.  We took a drive “over the mountain” to see what we could see.

On the way down the other side of the mountain towards to Verde Valley Arizona,

WOW!

Organic Stir Fry

The other day, our new landlord offered me some homegrown cabbage from the garden of a friend of her’s.  Neither of us were very sure what type it was, but it made a dandy Chicken & Veg Stir fry, served over noodles… I haven’t made noodles in a while!

MMM, Thanks Cheryl!

Discovering New Places To Eat Out, Olde World Bagels and Market

Part of living in a new place is discovering new eateries.  Our new landlord had pointed us in the direction of a terrific bagel shop in town, Olde World Bagels and Market.  It’s a bit off the path, but we found it, twice!

The first visit was kinda of like a meet and greet for us, we bought 3 plain bagels; that should tell the tale.  YES IN DEED!  Very good!  So we returned for a full blown meal.  An early breakfast was in order a few days later, in which we ordered each a Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel, mine on the Herbs de Provence bagel with Cheddar and DH had his on a plain Bagel with Swiss Cheese. Sorry, but I didn’t snap a photo, next time, because there will be a next time.

BUT WAIT!

We also took home a baker’s dozen of assorted flavored bagels for later.

AW, Come On MAN!

The following morning it was a plain bagel, toasted, with fried Taylor’s Pork Roll if you’re from New jersey or Taylor’s Ham if you’re from Pennsylvania… but I digress … I added a slice of Swiss Cheese melted it on top.

BOY HOWDY!  Them’s some good eats!

Long Time No See

Yeah, I know that I’ve been absent for a while, but I have a very good excuse.  My husband and I sold our home in Southern Arizona and have moved to Central Arizona, the Gateway to the Grand Canyon.

Sunset in Central Arizona

We are renting a place from friend-of-friends for the time being and it is beautiful here!

More later, so stay tuned.
