El Charro Norte In Chino Valley

When we first moved to this area, we were renting up North, while our new home was being built.  Our friends who live up there took us to El Charro Norte, the sister restaurant to El Charro in Downtown Prescott on Montezuma.  We haven’t been to the place in town, but if it’s anything like Norte, we should probably go there too!

Let me first say that their Sangria is fantastic!  Also try the Skinny Rita.  Oh yeah, the food’s good too.

We ordered for the table a Taco Salad, a Guacamole Salad, Shrimp Taco, Chile Rellenos with beans and rice and a Roberto Burger.  Oh man, that was good!  We’ve gone back many times and have always had a great meal, fun times with our friends and a wonderful cocktail.  We’d like to go back this winter and sit on the outdoor patio with the fireplace and enjoy the countryside.

This is a little off the beaten path, but worth it.

Taco Tuesday at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant in Chino Valley Arizona

Okay, so we talked about Taco Tuesday out with friends before, but that was in Catalina, what about in Chino Valley Arizona?

We met Mister and Missus DF’s at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant in Chino Valley for a second time.  The first was for Sunday breakfast, yes, I said breakfast and it was GOOD!  I didn’t get any photographs, because I did a face plant into my food before I could reach for my camera.  Not tonight though, Mrs. DF reminded me, “Where’s your camera? You forgot to take pictures on Sunday.”  Thank you Holly!

Taco Tuesday at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant

Oh my GAWD!  Come on Man, for $3 you can have Carne Asada, Carnita, Fish or Shrimp tacos.  For $2 you can have Ground Beef, Chicken, and, ummm, I forget now, HA!  But there were I think 2 other choices for $2.  Oh, AND $2 Margaritas that weren’t bad.

Chicken Taco Salad at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant

Also on our table were two salads, an Avocado Salad and a Chicken Taco Salad.  The Cilantro Ranch dressing was outstanding.  Make sure if you go to ask for the “secret stash” of the Green Salsa, muy caliente, but very tasty.

Cheesecake Chimi at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant

Mrs. DF said that I needed to try the Cheesecake Chimi, oh baby!  GOOD!

We’ve already made a date for the four of us to meet at Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant again in two weeks!

Dessert In Chino Valley Arizona

On our most recent visit in Prescott Arizona, we had dinner, yet again, at Bonn-Fire in Chino Valley Arizona, love this place!  Our dinner choices were pretty much the usual stuff we each order, but dessert for the table this time was beyond good.

Eggs, Fresh From The Hens

While we were visiting with our dear friends in CHI-CHI-CHI-Chino Valley, once again Missus DF made sure that we went home with some of her uber  fresh eggs that her ‘girls’ had produced.

These are such beautiful organic eggs, not only on the outside, but look  at the shell on the inside too! And the yolks are such a deep golden, well, egg color… very much unlike the commercial eggs that we get at the megamart. The girls are some of the best fed chickens that I have ever met. My girlfriend orders this special feed for them and then they get the odd goodie from the kitchen, which they go crazy for.

Our favorite way to eat these gems from Northern Arizona is just as a simple scramble made with butter for the pan (sshhh, please don’t tell my husband, he claims to HATE butter, but loves the way that I prepare his eggs), a pinch of salt and some chives. Serve it all up on a warm plate with Rye toast (lightly toasted and dry please), cold smoked salmon and some tomatoes, oh and loads of freshly cracked black pepper on DH’s plate and then for myself, Trader Joe’s whole wheat Italian bread (Tuscan Pane), butter, yes more butter and a dollop of my homemade Meyer Lemon Marmalade

HEAVEN ON A PLATE!

Happy Belated Valentine’s Day

I know I’m late, but my darling husband and I just got back from a terrific long weekend away. We went to visit with our friends in Northern Arizona once again, this time it was just that little bit, more. We all went this great little organic vineyard in Chino Valley, Granite Creek Vineyard.

This is such an adorable place, I only wish that I had not been having such a good time as to walk around and ask questions about the place, but we’ve all decided that in the Spring, when everything is in full leaf, we’ll go back again. DH says that we should make sure to buy a nice bottle of wine to enjoy on the grounds next time and spend more time there.  HE even liked it and he doesn’t drink (he was our designated driver).

There’s this delicious catering truck out back of the tasting room that serves up some mouth watering treats to go along with your glass or bottle, as the case may be. Block Six Catering. We were each offered a complimentary dessert, (sorry no photos, they went so fast and I was having so much fun) of Carrot cake, Chocolate layer cake or Cheesecake. Our choices were three Cheesecakes and one Carrot cake, yum! For a savory, we opted for the Cheese plate, WOW!

An unusual lavash on top, that hit both the sweet and umami on my tounge; Brie, Manchago, Triple Cream Bleu and Smoked Provolone (all of my personal favs), Candied Pecans, Kalamata olives, some sliced tart Green Apple and a sort of Compote (I forgot to ask, maybe too much wine ?) that we think was made of cherries. The four of us shared the dish, which was plenty as a late lunch.

I want to return to this oasis in the middle of NO WHERE  not only for the wine but the food as well.

Valentine Day Sunset in Chino Valley, AZ

This was the end to the perfect Valentine’s Day weekend with my sweet-heart and two righteous friends.
