Back Home In Hawaii ~ May 2019 ~ Part 6

Well, this brings us to the last installment of our trip back home to Oahu, to the beginning of our trip – `cuz `member we’re working backwards, yeah.

Our view from the lanai for the month

Once we get all settled into the condo that we like so much to rent, we head out for supplies and sustenance.

This is a well-known catch-phrase in Hawaii, “First Stop Zippy’s” and that’s what we did!

Let’s get some grindz!

We went over acoupla towns to one of the nicer-sit-down style Zippy’s and we were not disappointed.

I ordered the Fried Chicken and Chili plate and to my surprise, they had adult beverages!  Yes please!

DH had the Surf-Pac – Teri-Beef, Spam and Fried Chicken.

AHHHH!

Now we’re home!

Thank you so much for staying with me as we worked our way through this last trip home to Hawaii Nei.

Back Home In Hawaii ~ May 2019 ~ Part 5

If you’re a foodie as I am, then you already know that Hawaii has some pretty unique foods and dishes.
Here are a few of my favorites.

These fried dumpling are called Crispy Gau Gee, very popular served as either an appetizer as you see above, or in Noodle dishes.

You’ll find this in the produce section of any grocery store in Hawaii, but not here in Cowboyville I’m afraid.

So I make my own when I need some for say my Fried Saimin. It’s quite simple, shredded Green Cabbage, Carrots and Mung Bean Sprouts.

Kahuku Corn. This is hands down the best Corn you’ll ever have.

This is a fruit that in Hawaii we call Mountain Apple. These grow in so many folk yards and they will put out boxes filled with them with a sign on it “free”.

S&S Saimin. No, this is nothing like Ramen. This noodle is unique to Hawaii.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile now, you’ll be familiar with these crackers. Diamond Bakery Soda Crackers, the best!

These are just a few of the unique foods found in Hawaii. Maybe you need to take a flight over to discover some for yourselves?

Our story will continue, so stayed tuned …

Another place that is a

MUST GO TO

is Matsumoto’s for Shave Ice (please note-it is NOT Shaved Ice)

MAN!

Myself, I prefer the traditional Rainbow with Ice Cream and Azuki Beans on the bottom … I can’t remember which flavor DH ordered.

On this last trip back home to Hawaii Nei we went to Waiola’s, which is suppose to be even better than Matsumoto’s

Meh, not so much really.

We don’t mind that long ride out to Haleiwa.

DH insisted that he remembered how to get to Waiola’s, hmmm, we drove around for ever with no success. I looked it up on my smartphone and we were way off

Our story will continue, so stayed tuned …

Some place that I must visit when ever we’re back home in Hawaii Nei is Leonard’s Bakery.
On one of our daily treks to the beach, I saw this

Do you see that line to get in the door?

Leonard’s Portuguese Donuts-Malasadas

I did finally get my fix though.

GO EARLY!

Back Home In Hawaii ~ May 2019 ~ Part 2

Ya know when you go on a trip and you want to buy EVERYTHING to bring home?

Yeah, NO!!

One must use restraint and NOT try to over do it!

I always pack a large, collapsible bag that I can jam all of our clothes in and then all the stuff  that I buy to bring back goes into the suitcase. This trip was no exception.

I had a bunch of frozen foods too, the usual suspects, S&S Saimin, Portuguese Sausage, etc… but forgot to take photos.

Now here’s the rub of this trip …

My husband has had his eye on this beautiful Koa Wood replica of the main Hawaiian Islands, FOR YEARS!

I had bought a hard-sided suitcase, small enough to take as a Carry-On, but large enough to pack-up fragile items to take back from Hawaii.

And that’s what blew out DH’s left bicep !!!

I had wrapped each ‘Island’ in Bubble-Wrap and very carefully packed these in the Carry-On bag, that we stashed in the overhead bin, for the Airplane ride back to Arizona.
It was easy going up, it was the trying to wrangle it back down that was the problem.

So ends this installment of our trip, but do please stay tuned as I continue through, backwards

Back Home In Hawaii ~ May 2019 ~ Part 1

Geez, ya know what? It just dawned on me that we never talked about our trip back home to Oahu!  That was almost two years ago

So let’s back this awfully strange train that we’ve been on ever since and start from the ending of our trip and work our way backwards.

You’ll remember I posted that I had been absent for a time back then because my Dearest Husband had gotten injured, this was as we were dis-embarking our flight back to Arizona.

Yeah, so …  moving … backwards

Whenever we do fly back from Hawaii, we make our last stop before hitting the airport, ZIPPY’S!!!!

I need that last hit, because we won’t be having this again very soon

Sorry, I couldn’t wait to start eating!

I got us each a Zip Pac® for our on-board lunch (sorry Hawaiian Airlines, I don’t care for your free meals very much) and as the drink cart came past us I ordered a locally brewed Beer that our friend had introduced me to on this trip … Maui Brewing Co.’s Bikini Blonde
YUM!

That was ONO (that’s delicious in Hawaiian) !!!!
So that was the end of our trip, but do please stay tuned as I continue through, backwards
